Sponsor Licence Applications
A Sponsor Licence is required if you intend to hire someone who is not British or who does not have the right to work in the UK. All businesses that need to employ workers from outside the United Kingdom, must obtain a Sponsor Licence. You can obtain a Sponsor Licence by making an application.
As part of the application process, you will be required to prove that you are a legitimate business that requires the use of migrant talent. This is called the ‘genuine business test’. Once this has been arranged, you can apply for a Sponsorship Licence. You can make this application online or by post – the whole process usually takes around three months in full. We assist with advising on audit of HR Systems & Procedures, advise on the most appropriate type of Sponsor Licence application for your business, advice and guidance on using correct SOC codes, undertake all document and business checks required and undertake compliance guidance.
Once you have applied, UKVI will review your application and supporting evidence to ensure you meet the requirements for a Sponsor Licence. As part of this review, they may choose to visit your business site and meet all personnel who intend to be involved in the overseas recruitment process. If the requirements are satisfied, a sponsor licence may be issued. We can assist in ensuring that the application is granted when you apply.
We also train sponsors on compliance with their sponsor duties and the management of the SMS (Sponsorship Management System).

Sponsor Licence Management
Managing a sponsor licence alongside day-to-day business operations can be both time-consuming and high-risk, particularly when even small oversights can lead to serious compliance breaches, home office audits or licence suspension or revocation. Frequent changes to the Immigration Rules make it even more challenging for employers to stay up to date and maintain full compliance. Recent policy announcements and proposed reforms by the Home Secretary may further affect sponsored workers and their employers, making it essential that senior management, line mangers HR teams and staff have accurate, up-to-date guidance. This not only helps your organisation meet its sponsor duties but also reduces the risk of visa curtailments, business disruption and reputational damage.
At L-X Consulting Immigration Limited, we support employers by reducing the administrative and compliance burden on HR and management teams, ensuring robust ongoing compliance with sponsor duties, and providing clear and practical guidance to sponsored staff throughout their immigration journey. With over a decade of experience, we have a proven track record of securing successful visa outcomes for individuals and advising organisations across a wide range of sectors on every aspect of sponsor licence management and compliance. Our dedicated team brings extensive hands-on knowledge of UK immigration law and practice, delivering reliable, commercially aware support tailored to each organisation’s risk profile.
We can assist with:
- Sponsor licence management – Comprehensive, ongoing support to help you meet all sponsor duties, including timely reporting of organisational and worker-related changes, maintaining accurate HR records, monitoring sponsored staff, and ensuring all documentation meets Home Office requirements.
- Pre-audit compliance health checks – Detailed mock Home Office audits to assess your current compliance systems and identify any gaps or vulnerabilities. We conduct a full review of your HR processes, record-keeping, recruitment practices, and reporting history, providing clear prioritised recommendations to minimise risk ahead of any official inspection.
- Sponsor licence applications and renewals – End-to-end assistance with preparing and submitting robust defensive sponsor licence applications and renewal requests, advising on eligibility, and ensuring your organisation meets eligibility requirements and is fully equipped to meet Home Office expectations.
- Advice on recruiting and onboarding sponsored workers (Skilled Worker and other routes) – Expert guidance throughout the recruitment and onboarding process, including role assessments, salary-level compliance, issuing Certificates of Sponsorship, and ensuring new hires meet all eligibility criteria.
- Individual immigration advice for sponsored staff – Tailored support for visa applications, extensions, Indefinite Leave to Remain, and family-related routes. We help with navigating the complexities of UK immigration with confidence, ensuring applications are accurately prepared and submitted.
- Training for HR and managers – Practical, scenario-based training sessions on sponsor duties, right-to-work checks, reporting obligations, and common compliance pitfalls. Training is designed to upskill your HR team and managers, helping them understand their responsibilities and maintain strong internal compliance processes.
